What is Messi Doing at Huawei?
In order to become a leader of the smartphone market Huawei is taking new daring and inventive steps. Back a few years or even months ago it was hard to believe that a Chinese company can become attractive to a superstar who is the face of numerous worldwide famous brands. However hard work and dedication do pay off.
And so, FIFA Ballon d’Or 5 times winner Leo Messi is the new brand ambassador for Huawei. Messi, a leading player of Spanish “Barcelona”, has been part of the Samsung PR campaign for the last few years, however he received a proposition from Huawei so tempting, it was impossible to turn down.
Such an unbelievable and pretentious contract is another proof that Huawei will stop at nothing to become the best in the field and will following its motto, will “make it possible”. The financial part of the agreement between Messi and Huawei is not disclosed. Nevertheless some claim that Messi will receive as much as 8 mln dollars monthly.
This is a very generous offer especially compared to a modest 3 mln the soccer superstar was offered at Samsung. At the press conference following the signage of the contract Leo Messi spoke of dreams and ways to make them come true:
“There are cases when you have to make sacrifices in order to move forward. It’s painful but it has to be done. From time to time it might seem you have reached the top, and then these moments occur you have to set new goals and move forward towards new achievements”,- said Messi.
By signing the contract Huawei has expressed hope for a long term cooperation. The head of Huawei Consumer BG Kevin Hon, responsible for handset devices, claimed that Leo Messi will add Huawei in acquiring new achievement and accomplishments: “Each of us respects the path that we have undergone in order to get where we currently are. Each new difficulty we treat as a new way of reaching success. This is the main similarity between Huawei and Lionel Messi”,- sain Hon.
This spring the company launched sales of Huawei Mate 8 Messi Limited Edition which had Leo Messi’s autograph on its back, right above Huawei logo. The total number of models produced was 5000, each with its own unique number. Huawei Mate 8 Messi Limited Edition was sold out with utter speed at the price of 670 US dollars per piece.
